Idea Map

  1. Beginning my final essay, I used an idea map to write out my idea path. This was very helpful because I could see the progression of my ideas, and really understand how my CIQ got more complicated. One of the things that I had more trouble with this quarter was the idea of a transforming CIQ, but this idea map helped me to understand better how it worked. I was able to see where the essay would start—how does where writing comes form effect how it’s viewed—to where it ended up—writing shapes both the writer and the reader in a way more complex than just one label can describe.
Although I didn't use all the boxes on the worksheet, I molded the paper into something that would work for me and help me in the process of forming my essay. I think that this paper really helped in the formation of the concrete ideas that would end up to be the back bone of the paper so that I could then work on filling it out-- more of the conversational tone, authoritative I, and structure of the sentences.
I think by writing this idea map in preparation for my final essay, I was better equipped to start a paper that I was confident had a point and I knew where it was going at each step of the way. It helped me to better understand the backbone of the paper I was writing and helped me incorporate evidence based claims into it which I hadn't done very well in my previous papers, with boxes specifically for the evidence part.
