The conclusion on my second essay shows my deeper understanding of the conversational and open ended tone of the critical inquiry writing we did in class this year. In papers that I’ve written in the past, the concluding paragraph has always been to sum up the argument I essentially had “proved” in the essay through claims and evidence. The way we wrote in this class was hard to get used to simply because I had always written in a very one sided way. The conclusion on my second essay although does have a more open ended finish avoiding words that shut out other ways of looking at the topic but instead keep it more open, along with a concluding thought that I had come upon. The ideas in this last paragraph in my second essay also were a big part of what sparked my final presentation essay. I really liked the topic I had going in my second essay and wanted to expand on them further. The idea that people are more than just a label and that books in turn are also more than just the genre they are put under is a pretty fundamental one, and this is the conclusion I came to at the end of my second essay, but by using these ideas and bringing them together with a new twist on them—exploring how Sommers essay complicates it—showed both progression and revision along with putting multiple ideas in conjunction with another.
